THE PERFORMANCE
As we find ourselves in this season of the holidays we must won-der how they connect to one another and what is the understanding of their progression. Perhaps we can return to the model of our orchestra. On Rosh Hashana we establish our commitment to participating as active participants in HaShem’s symphony.
We accept HaShem as our Conductor. During the subsequent days we polish ourselves in preparation for the cleansing we will receive on Yom Kippur. On Yom Kippur HaShem wipes away the grime and filth that lined our neshama, thereby opening up a clear communication between us and our Conductor.
We are now able to see and hear Him and take our cues from Him. Our neshamos are inspired and ready to perform. Now we must collect our instruments and prepare the Symphony Hall for the performance that will inspire all those in attendance.
HaShem therefore gave us four days in which to collect the lulav, esrog, hadassim and aravos and time to build the Succah. Finally the holiday of Succos arrives and the most important guests arrive. Yes the very most important guests, the ones who participated in composing the Symphony in concert with the Conductor. Avraham and Yitzchok and Yaakov joined by Yosef, Moshe, Aaron and Dovid Hamelech! They are seated in the front row seats as their beloved children perform and bring to life the vision HaShem had for His world.
It is no wonder that of all the holidays, it is Succos that is called the season of our rejoicing. This is what we do and what we live for. It is also no wonder why in the future all the nations will come to Yerushalayim to celebrate Succos. They, too, are part of this grand world. Should they not come to listen to the performance and appreciate the vision HaShem has for His world!
May HaShem bring this great day when our music will truly fill the world and all of creation will join in song and dance before the Great Conductor.
Have a wonderful Shabbos and beautiful Yom Tov.
